Bespoke Bridal Footwear: Custom-made shoes for brides-to-be

Hola, shoe lovers!

I can't believe December is already here. We're now 6 months old, and boy, have we grown up! After three collections, various exhibitions and many collaborations, I can say I'm happy where the label has reached. But as always, we've got miles to go.

One of the coolest new things the label has introduced is the Bespoke Bridal Footwear service, wherein we customize shoes for bride's for one of the most special days of their lives! With candid photography, videos and whatnot, you just cannot afford to be seen in run-of-the-mill pair of shoes.

Many people have asked me how it works and how I go about it. So here's a basic outline of the Bespoke Bridal Footwear offering:

  1. You tell us what you're looking for.
You first share pictures of your wedding dress, any references of styles you like and your preferences, for instance: Heel- Wedge; Heel height: 2.5 inches, Style: Open/closed, etc. These details help us design your shoes keeping your style and preferences in mind
  2. We give you some options.
In this stage, we share some design options, show you options such as the types of embroidery you can get, colour of the leather, types of fittings and so on and so forth. We discuss and finalize the design.
  3. That's all! We work on the design and give you the finished pair.
We keep you in the loop all along and share the progress of the shoes so at any point you're uncertain of something, you can freely discuss it with us. Currently, we're working with brides only in Mumbai. We have a lot of cool offerings in this service, so what are you waiting for, bride-to-be? Write to us at query@devikabharadwaj.com to know more!

Happy shoe shopping!

Lookbook: How to style black and silver, Zooey high heel shoes

Hi!

It's been one of helluva season  so far with the super successful Lil Flea,  the launch of our new Autumn Winter 2015 collection along with our Bespoke Bridal Footwear customization feature. I really hope you've been liking everything we've been doing in the world of footwear. Do tell me what you like and what you don't in comments below. I really want to know!

Between events and lot of custom bridal shoes, I got back to doing a lookbook post with one of my favourites from the AW-15 shoe collections: Zooey.

Look 1:
I LOVE how these shoes add a statement to any outfit you pair it with. You can wear these for a casual look with a graphic tee, comfy shorts and big, funky sunglasses; or go formal with an LBD, some simple, elegant jewellery and a clutch bag.

Look 2:
Jumpsuits, boyfriend jeans, dungarees, jackets, overalls- basically anything denim has been so in this season (Saw so many people wearing them even to Lakme Fashion Week) that it's something you just must add to your wardrobe if you haven't already. Best for bringing out your fuss-free-chic style, wear Zooey with some denim and pair it with a white shirt or tee to keep it cool.

Hope you like these two looks! Got any better ideas to style these beauties? Do tell!

To shop a pair of Zooey, visit: www.devikabharadwaj.com. Happy shoe shopping!

Entrepreneurship, announcements and more...

Hi!

This has been a spectacular month for us at the Devika Bharadwaj HQ in Mumbai. 50 shades of awesome, I'd say. With the launch of the Resort '15 shoe collection and the amazing response we've been receiving for the Spring-Summer '15 shoe collection, I'm only too excited to see what October unfolds.

Here's a round-up of all the latest announcements that made September so awesome:

  1. We launched the Resort '15 shoe collection. This is the second we released and you can check it out here at: http://devikabharadwaj.com/Resort-2015-catid-724706-page-1.html
  2. We announced our participation in The Lil' Flea Edition 5, which is a really fun event filled with live music, yummy food and awesome collections to check our like ours :P It's happening at the BKC, Mumbai from the 9th to 11th October from 4pm-11pm. Come and say hello, okay?
  3. Lastly, we went live on the Violet Street yesterday, which is an online boutique marketplace, delivery designer wear all over India for free!
That's a pretty cool list for our fourth month of operation, right? It's been a helluva journey. Don't be mistaken- I've really put my back into it, trying to ensure that all products are sourced locally, and the leather we use really is the best you can get in country. When I started out, I had one goal very clear in my head, which is "You have to make buying shoes online fun and easy, no matter what." This I largely ensured by partnering with PayU money to offer online paymentsand with FedEx, Aramex and others that ship the fastest and safest, along with accepting COD payments.

With just over a week to go for The Lil Flea, here's how I'll end this note. We have our biggest, bestest surprise announcement coming up soon after. It's big. HUGE. Take a guess? I dare you to.

Lookbook: How to style Kiara loafers

Hi!

It's been a while since I did a look-book post. It's a shame, really, since they're the most fun category to write about (only next to writing about my entrepreneurship experience :P ). I really do like writing and sharing these styling tips with you as it gives me a chance to share the vision with which these shoes were designed; what kind of outfits I thought they'd go with and where you could wear them.

So here's my next look-book ideas on how you ladies can style the Kiara loafer style shoes. These Marsala hued sandals, are now available on our website in the Resort '15 collection.

Look 1:
I absolutely LOVE how these shoes add a pop of colour to any outfit you pair it with. You can wear these for a casual look with a graphic tee, comfy shorts and big, funky sunglasses.

Look 2:
Jumpsuits, boyfriend jeans, dungarees, jackets, overalls- basically anything denim has been so in this season (with so many people wearing them even to Lakme Fashion Week) that it's something you must add to your wardrobe if you haven't already. Best for bringing out your fuss-free-chic style, wear Kiara with some denim, and throw in a cool bag for a little something extra.

Look 3:
Given just how comfortable these are, if you're someone who isn't afraid to experiment and go crazy with the work wardrobe (but would still like to keep it easy)... Well, Kiara is going to be your new best friend. Colourful, yet something that goes with everything, Kiara can be worn with the usual black trousers+ Shirt combo, or even formal dresses.
I hope you liked these looks. If you have suggestions for styling these Marsala beauties, do tell how in comments below!

You can buy Kiara, here: http://bit.ly/1irq5W9. Happy shoe shopping!

Lookbook: How to style Odell, our animal-print sandals for women

Hello!

It's been a while since my last post because so much has been happening in the Devika Bharadwaj HQ! We've been developing some new shoe designs for you guys (psst: it's got some heels!), plus I've been super-duper involved in setting up a new manufacturing unit where all your fabulous shoes are going to be made soon.

Here are three fabulous ways to style our easy-to-wear slip-on shoes for women: Odell.
Odell is made using pure goat leather and hair-on animal print leather, on a water-resistant sole, and is available on our web store- www.devikabharadwaj.com- for ₹1750/-.

Look 1:
Given the sometimes humid, sometimes warm weather across the country right now, plain white shirt and tees (my all time favourites) and denims shorts are the safest and most comfortable way to step out all day. Pair this outfit with our flats and a big handbag and sunglasses.

Look 2:
This one's from my closet! If you've been following the blog and our social media stories, you' have seen how I styled this top with the 'Lara' sandals for the exhibition at J.W. Marriott. Another way I'm definitely going to wear this top for a more feminine, work-wear look is by pairing it with Odell for amazing comfort, with black pants and earrings.

Look 3:
The last look is one for the evenings. pair Odell with a jumpsuit and a gold hairband to get a classy yet wild-spirited outfit! Add a jacket if you think you're not going to get time to change outfits, and voila! you've got yourself a versatile day-tonight look!

Hope you enjoyed reading about the different ways you can style Devika Bharadwaj shoes. Don't forget to tell us what you think, and share any other outfit ideas you've got for these!

Lookbook: How to wear 'Banjaara', our most popular shoes

Hello, shoe lovers!

It's good to be back after the J.W. Marriott exhibition hangover and trip to Goa. During my trip, while I was analyzing my learning and experiences from our first ever event, I realized that over 50% of the visitors to our stall loved our Banjaara sandals. In fact, it turned out to be our most sold item of the event! So I thought why not do a lookbook post for our shoppers on different ways you can style this pair.

Look 1:

I think the white-gold colour of these flats make its most versatile and fun feature. These colours would come out best when paired with denims. Whether sunny or rainy, denim shorts, culottes and dresses are most comfy ways to style these with. Style this with a white large tote bag and some gold hued jewelery to make your outfit look effortlessly chic and sophisticated.

Look 2:

The reason why we've named it Banjaara is its easy to wear, strappy, wanderer-like look. So here's an outfit idea from my own wardrobe. I love mixing Indian and western clothing elements. So one of the ways I'd wear it is with comfy black pants, a white tee and this very desi looking jackets with an antique stone necklace I picked up while street shopping. These kind of looks have so much character in them, wouldn't you agree?

Look 3:

Like I mentioned before, these shoes are very versatile and you wear them with western outfits, fusion looks and an outright traditional Indian attire. One of the things most people loved about this pair is that they're slip-on style shoes and are so easy to wear and remove anytime.

Say Hello to Devika Bharadwaj: Video, bloopers and story

Hi, folks!

Here's introducing our latest YouTube video of bloopers from our intro video!

Anyone who knows me would agree on just how camera conscious I am, and how I really cannot stand my own voice on a mic. So doing this whole brand video thing in the first place was quite a crazy challenge. In fact, I think I'll go on to say it's tougher than dealing with manufacturers and karigars put together... and THAT is saying something.

However, the experiences and lessons I've learned on this venture have all been challenging, scary, fun yet rewarding in every which way. Even the bad  not so good situations, as I realized later, were all for a reason and taught me things that I'm glad I know at the beginning of this journey. Entrepreneurship has sort of made me even more spiritual. I have really started believing in divine timing and everything happening at the right time, in the right place, under the right circumstances... whether or not they feel right in the moment.

Anyway, I'd like to acknowledge the team that worked on creating such a great first video for brand Devika Bharadwaj. The original video was filmed and edited by Akshaya and Parth of Reel-on Chemistry. However, it would not have been possible without the support of my friends Veda (whose pretty legs feature all our shoes in the video), Dipika and Apurva.

In case you missed our intro video, check it out now:

Event highlights: Devika Bharadwaj at J.W. Marriott, Juhu

Hi, folks!

It's been just 9 days since I launched the Devika Bharadwaj online shoe store... but such an eventful nine days these have been!

From receiving our first order within the first hour of launch to doing an exhibition at one of the most prime events' locations in Mumbai, we've taken a few steps ahead in our endeavour of bringing elegant, handcrafted shoes for women in India.

On the 14th and 15th of June, we took our spring-summer '15 collection to an exhibition at J.W. Marriott, Juhu. It was a great experience to meet everyone, and there was so much to learn on how to connect with customers face-to-face, how to display products, what works, what does not work, and so on and so forth.

We hope to see you in each and every one of the events. Thank you to all those who came! It was so good to see you. Don't forget to share your experience with the shoes and how you liked wearing them!

For all those who couldn't show up, fret not, we've got videos and photos to share with you.

Lookbook: How to style gladiator sandals

Hello, shoe lover!

I've always loved gladiator sandals, and have sort of been jealous of how effortlessly some women carry them without looking like over-dressed or out-of-place. I'm sure some of you, like me, would have been hesitant to buy gladiator sandals thinking you wouldn't actually be able to carry it off with a casual grace that gladiators demand.

Fret not! I've put together three different looks that you can play with at different times of the day with Luna, our neutral cappuccino coloured gladiator flats.

Look 1:

I don't know about you, but I'm totally crushing over all things ripped this season. Ripped boyfriend jeans, ripped denim jackets, and here as you can see below, ripped denim shorts. Pair your gladiator sandals with shorts, a casual tshirt and probably an oversized bag for a comfortable yet stylish look during the day.

Look 2:

I wouldn't go so far as to pair gladiator flats with too much print and too many colours, but I would totally go for simpler colour combinations and patterns such as this summery blue and white striped dress oozing feminine sensuality. You'd grab every pair of eyeball on every square foot of the planet you walk on. Trust me.

Look 3:

This one's from my own closet! I'd pair Luna with a blue top with delicate silver straps, my horse shaped choker, and a plain white capris or skirt.

Hope you liked these looks! Do share your suggestions and ideas, or better yet, show us how you'd style Luna in the comments below; connect and tag us (@bharadwajdevika) on social media.

Yay! First set of orders dispatched

Hi, there,

Second post in a single day? Well, I just couldn't resist sharing the dispatch of our first set of orders. Boy, does it feel good!

As an entrepreneur and a shoe designer, there were so many moments (even weeks before the launch) when I thought not a single shoe would sell, and no one would like any of my designs; that I'd have to curl up under my blanket and not come out of it for the rest of my life.

Yep... On the journey to starting something new, things can get pretty dramatic and often you'll find yourself doubting your own ideas, your efforts and your beliefs. There will be crazy times when you wonder why you're struggling and doing any of it. But it's in moments, like the one I'm sharing today, when you realize that it was all worth it and all that struggle and tough time you went through was SO worth it.

So I'd like to thank my first customers, my well-wishers and friends. But most of all, I'd like to take this moment to thank myself- for the path I chose, for the decisions I made, for the crap I went through, for the good, the bad and the funny... Three cheers for me!

If you're entrepreneur, or plan to be one, I bet you can totally relate to what I wrote about. But remember, all before us have survived, and so will we. :)

Lookbook: How to style Birkenstock sandals

Hello, shoe lovers!

Birkenstocks are back, and I bet they're here to stay!

These cork-soled shoes have found their way to the hearts of fashionistas across Europe and the US. It got me wondering why us bharat-wasis still shy away from this uber comfy pair of slip-ons; and then I thought maybe it's because you don't want to end up looking 'too' comfortable or almost boyish.

So I've put together two looks on how you can style the Devika Bharadwaj snake print Birkentock this season!

Look 1

I suggest pairing them with your ripped boyfriend jeans, a white crop top and your fave lip colour to ooze style, comfort and sex appeal at the same time!

Look 2

For a lunch date with your bae, or for a day out shopping with the girls, I recommend wearing a cute dress, or a top and skirt to go for a more feminine appeal. Complete the outfit with oversized sunglasses for the celebrity diva look.

Hope you liked our suggestions. Think you can style them better? Show us how in the comments below or connect and tag us (@bharadwajdevika) on social media.
